Growing Tomatoes

My tomato keeps growing taller but gives no sign of flowering so far. It's more than 6 months old now; I grew it from a seed. Does it normally take so long, or am I doing anything wrong? Could it be due to lack of sunlight? I've been giving it fertilizer pellets (for flowering) once every fortnight.

Also, what are these little white dots on the main stem? Are they normal or parasitic?

Found some really comprehensive info on all sorts of tomato problems here: http://home.earthlink.net/~shelly.johnson/tomato.html . Thanks dex!

But I still don't know what causes the white spots. There seems to be no spots on the leaves... .

I should stop feeding them,Olivia!! I think the white spots (if they are hard) is just 'old age' ...yes really :o) any plant will flower if it 'panics' they need to make seed (babies) you see...good luck. Norma.

Thanks for the advice, Norma! I sure hope you're right (yes the spots are hard). I'm going to stop fertilizing my tomato, and will post a picture of the flowers if this approach works! :D

ah~~ I forgot to stop fertilizing it. I just did it again a few days ago!! It's a habit now, I guess.. I better remember next time. Oh, and King came over the other day n said that those spots are there coz the tomato's trying to grow roots. Cute! :)

Your tomato plant is not healthy, Most likely it is short of sunlight, tomato need at least half day full sun, and also need a lot of water during thr growing period. Soild is important too.

I planted tomatos in pot three times, the first two patch are growing very well, harvest 40 tomatos each plant, but the third patch all gone now. :)

This is my plant:
